Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Bayern Munich

Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Champions League meeting with Bayern Munich.

Chelsea head into the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Bayern Munich requiring a minor miracle to progress further in the competition.

While the Blues had their moments in the opening game before the coronavirus pandemic, they ultimately succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Facing major selection issues ahead of the visit to the Allianz Arena, Frank Lampard must now decide how to approach a game where his team are considered major underdogs.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the encounter at the home of the Bundesliga champions.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Unknown
Possible return date: August 8 (vs. Bayern Munich)

Lampard revealed last week that Loftus-Cheek had sustained a minor injury, which was enough to keep him out of the FA Cup final. While no risks will be taken on the academy graduate, Lampard may be keen for the Englishman to get some more game time under his belt.

Billy Gilmour

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

After suffering a significant knee injury against Crystal Palace earlier this month, Gilmour has been ruled out until the end of the autumn at the earliest.

Cesar Azpilicueta

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Azpilicueta was withdrawn from the first half of the FA Cup final after suffering a hamstring injury. While a return date has not been suggested, the Spaniard will not be involved at the weekend.

Christian Pulisic

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Immediately after half time, Pulisic followed his captain in sustaining a significant hamstring injury. As it stands, it would come as a surprise if the winger recovers in time for the start of the new campaign on September 12.

Jorginho picked up his third yellow card of Chelsea's European campaign in the last game, subsequently ruling him out of Saturday's fixture.
