Liverpool could battle Chelsea for the signature of Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo, according to a report.

Liverpool could reportedly rival Chelsea for the signature of Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo.

The Uruguay international's future at Camp Nou is currently being called into question, with his deal due to expire in June 2023.

Barcelona are believed to be keen to sign the 22-year-old to an extension but could struggle to offer him an improvement on his current wages due to their ongoing financial problems.

A recent report claimed that Chelsea are ready to explore the possibility of signing the centre-back during next summer's transfer window.

However, according to ESPN, there is also interest from Liverpool, with the Reds identifying him as the ideal player to boost their defensive unit for the 2022-23 campaign.

Araujo has been a regular for Xavi's team during the current season, making 13 appearances in all competitions, while he has featured on 52 occasions for Barcelona since arriving from Boston River in 2018.
