Jose Enrique believes that new manager Brendan Rodgers can get Liverpool playing like reigning world and European champions Spain.

Jose Enrique has claimed that Liverpool can play like reigning world and European champions Spain under new manager Brendan Rodgers.

The 39-year-old was unveiled at Anfield last month after he earned a number of admirers with his passing style of play at Swansea City.

Spaniard Enrique now says that there are similarities between what the players are doing in pre-season training and the possession football of his home country.

"For me it is the best way to play football, like Spain did, that's why they are the best at the moment," he told the club's official website.

"With the manager we play with the ball a lot and we are really happy with him.

"I'm really impressed. I know how he likes to play because we played against Swansea last year and I've seen them many times."

Liverpool get their Premier League campaign underway at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, August 18.
