Georginio Wijnaldum praises Steve McClaren's philosophy

Georginio Wijnaldum reveals that the deciding factor in him joining Newcastle United was Steve McClaren's footballing philosophy.

Newcastle United's new signing Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed that he joined the Magpies because of Steve McClaren's philosophy.

The Dutchman is likely to start his first game for Newcastle on Sunday against Southampton, after arriving from PSV Eindhoven in a £14.5m deal earlier this summer.

"He wants to always play football and score a lot of goals," the 24-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"He is a trainer who makes players better. That's why I have faith in him and chose Newcastle.

"I heard some stories about him from players who trained with him at Twente and I spoke with him on the phone before I signed."

Wijnaldum scored 56 goals in 152 appearances for PSV in all competitions.
