Bolton boss Owen Coyle is reportedly targeting Crawley defender Kyle McFadzean as Gary Cahill's replacement.
Coyle recently downplayed reports that Cahill is struggling to agree personal terms at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, he is understood to have seen League Two centre-back McFadzean play several times, according to The Sun, and is expected to make an offer of £1m.
McFadzean, who started his career with Sheffield United, joined the Reds from Alfreton Town in 2010 and was part of their promotion-winning side.
