Nemanja Matic: 'Chelsea had greater desire to win than Arsenal'

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic feels that his side possessed a greater desire to win Saturday's London derby than Arsenal in the Blues' 2-0 victory.

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has stated that his team wanted to win more than Arsenal did in Saturday's London derby.

The Blues emerged victorious in a feisty encounter at Stamford Bridge, and Matic believes the 2-0 win was down to Chelsea's greater desire to take the three points.

"We wanted to win more than them. It was a very important three points for us, especially against them," the 27-year-old told the club's official website.

"We didn't start the season very well so it was very important to win these two games - Champions League against Maccabi Tel Aviv and the derby against Arsenal.

"We didn't concede one goal and we scored six. We have to continue to play like this, especially the next game - it's going to be very important for us."

Chelsea take on Walsall in the League Cup in midweek before travelling to St James' Park for next weekend's Premier League fixture against Newcastle.
