Rob Elliot "delighted" with Newcastle United win

Rob Elliot expreses his delight after helping Newcastle United to a 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot declared himself "delighted" after starring in their 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The goalkeeper turned in an impressive display to keep the Cherries at bay as Ayoze Perez's goal made the difference at Dean Court, and Elliot was pleased with his personal performance.

"It was questionable [if I was going to be fit]", Elliot told BT Sport. "I just wanted to get out there for the lads. I trained Friday and I managed to get in the team today and delighted with three points.

"We know they started quick and we were disappointed we were a bit slow but we managed to hold on with that team spirit we've been building is good and you're just happy to help as a keeper.

"It wasn't just myself, it was the whole team. It was a well-earned victory and we need to make sure we improve performances going forward."

The win moves Steve McClaren's men up to 16th in the Premier League table.
