Stefan Effenberg: 'Bayern Munich will not retain Champions League'

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Stefan Effenberg believes that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United are the favourites for the Champions League this season.

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Stefan Effenberg does not believe that the German outfit will retain the Champions League this season.

The Bundesliga outfit have been in three of the last four finals, but Effenberg expects his former club to miss out next May.

"I do not trust Bayern to defend their title this season, and don't see Dortmund playing in the final either," Effenberg told Hamburger Morgenpost.

"The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United are big threats who I think will get there instead."

Effenberg had two spells with Bayern during his illustrious career.
