Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Man United

Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's injury and suspension news ahead of their Premier League showdown with Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool will be determined to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they face off against bitter rivals Manchester United in next Sunday's top-of-the-table clash.

Jurgen Klopp's men were given a scare by Aston Villa's spirited youngsters in the FA Cup on Friday evening but eventually triumphed 4-1 thanks to goals from Sadio Mane (2), Mohamed Salah and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Even though the Premier League champions have not been knocked off their perch just yet, they have failed to win any of their last three games in the top flight and suffered their second league defeat of the season at Southampton on January 4.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their showdown with Man United, who are only behind on goal difference.

Joel Matip

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Adductor
Possible return date: January 17 (vs. Man United)

Joel Matip sustained an adductor injury in Liverpool's draw with West Bromwich Albion on December 27, but Klopp has revealed that the defender is in a "good way" and has an outside chance of returning for this one.

Naby Keita

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Injury-plagued midfielder Naby Keita did not take part in the West Brom draw after suffering a muscular injury prior to the game. The 25-year-old played no part against Villa and will not be ready to make his comeback this weekend either.

Diogo Jota

Possible return date: February 6 (vs. Manchester City)

Diogo Jota's fast start to life at Liverpool was cut short by a knee injury he suffered against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League. Klopp has confirmed that the attacker is still in a brace and will not return to full training for another few weeks.

Kostas Tsimikas

Possible return date: February 6 (vs. Manchester City)

Kostas Tsimikas picked up a similar injury to Jota in the same match against Midtjylland, and the left-back is unlikely to return to action before February.

Joe Gomez

Possible return date: Unknown

Joe Gomez remains out for the long-term with the knee injury he picked up during international duty with England. The defender underwent successful surgery in November but doubts persist over whether he will return to action before the end of the season.

Virgil van Dijk

Possible return date: Unknown

Virgil van Dijk continues to keep fans posted with videos of his recovery from an ACL injury, but no timeframe has been placed on his return to action and it would be a surprise to see him come back before the end of the campaign.
