Jurgen Klopp has reportedly turned to Steven Caulker to ease Liverpool's injury problems in defence.
The Queens Park Rangers centre-back is currently in the middle of a season-long loan stint with Southampton.
However, having made just eight appearances for the Saints, there have been suggestions that his time on the South Coast will be cut short.
According to the Liverpool Echo, that has alerted Klopp, who has had to make do without the likes of Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure at different times since he took charge at Anfield in October.
The report adds that at this present moment in time the Reds are only interested in the 24-year-old on a loan basis, rather than a permanent switch.
Caulker's last appearance for Southampton came in the 6-1 hammering at the hands of Liverpool early last month.
