Lionel Messi reportedly urges new Barcelona boss Quique Setien to move for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

Lionel Messi has reportedly urged new Barcelona boss Quique Setien to move for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero as a replacement for Luis Suarez.

Aguero, who will see his contract at the Etihad Stadium expire at the end of next season, has scored 249 goals in 359 appearances for the Citizens in all competitions.

There is a feeling that the 31-year-old could seek pastures new in the summer of 2021, though, and according to reports in Spain, Messi has called for Setien to attempt to sign his fellow Argentine.

The Ballon d'Or holder allegedly told the club's new manager that City's record goalscorer would be the ideal player to replace Suarez, who is currently on the sidelines following knee surgery.

The Uruguay international has scored 14 times in 23 appearances at club level this season but is also out of contract next summer and could leave Camp Nou in search of pastures new.

Aguero scored 74 goals in 175 La Liga appearances during his time with Atletico Madrid.
