Hodgson: 'No sign of Rooney injury'

England manager Roy Hodgson claims that Wayne Rooney is not suffering with any injury.

Roy Hodgson has insisted that he saw no sign that Wayne Rooney is carrying an injury following an England training session earlier today.

The striker's future at Manchester United has been the subject of many reports this summer, with Chelsea having seen two bids for his services rejected.

The speculation has been intensified further by the fact that he has not turned out for United in any of their pre-season friendlies, although this had been put down to a combination of hamstring and shoulder problems.

However, Hodgson has revealed that Rooney did not appear to be hampered by a complaint at St George's Park.

"Rooney looked good, as I expected. There was no doubt in my mind in the session that he was not still suffering from a physical injury," the Three Lions manager told reporters. "It will be interesting to see how the data looks, and to speak to Wayne, and find out how he came through the session. He has not trained as intensely as he has trained today, so it will be interesting to see how that pans out.

"I do not expect him to have any repercussions from the session. He looked like he worked quite hard. Myself, my coaches and our fitness people will analyse everything - and in tandem with Wayne - will give him the right amount of minutes."

Despite his participation for England, Rooney is not expected to turn out for United away at Swansea City on Saturday evening.
