Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar is ready to resume his rivalry with Luis Suarez after the two were rivals in Holland.

Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar is ready to renew his rivalry with Luis Suarez during Liverpool's visit to Villa Park this afternoon.

The duo used to play in the Dutch league for Feyenoord and Ajax respectively.

Vlaar admits that Suarez was always a tricky opponent but is quick to point out that he was injured when the Uruguayan finally netted against Feyenoord.

"I know him from Holland," Vlaar said. "He was top scorer in the Dutch league and if he can do it here, it says something about his capabilities.

"It took a while before he scored against Feyenoord but I was injured, so it was not my doing.

"You can see he scores goals so easily. He's always in the right spot and the way he dribbles with the ball is great. He is one of the best players I have played against."

Villa are currently in 18th place and a repeat of the victory at Anfield earlier in the season would see them move out of the Premier League relegation zone.
