Mick McCarthy: 'Ipswich Town contributed to Leicester City defeat'

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy criticises his team's collapse at the hands of table-topping Leicester City.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has bemoaned his team's collapse at the hands of table-topping Leicester City, claiming that the East Anglian side "contributed to it".

The Foxes cruised to a 3-0 win over the Tractor Boys in today's Championship clash at the King Power Stadium, thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy, David Nugent and Chris Wood.

"We were beaten by a better side, that's for sure," McCarthy told reporters after the game. "Unfortunately for me and for us we contributed to it – and they don't need any help.

"I thought we played well in the second half. They're 2-0 up [at this point] though. There's two sides to it. Were they going to keep going for a third when they don't need to? I thought we had some opportunities to do better than we did but didn't take them.

"We got punished by a better team. I think they'll stroll [the league] by a million miles. I think they're the best team by a street."

Ipswich currently occupy 10th place in the Championship table and are five points away from the playoffs.
