Southampton score a late goal to clinch a 1-1 draw with Bristol City.

Southampton scored a late goal to secure a 1-1 draw with Bristol City in a pre-season match at Ashton Gate this evening.

The visitors started the game strongly, and came close to taking an early lead when the ball fell to Jay Rodriguez in the area, but City keeper Dean Gerken was quickly out to smother the shot.

It was the hosts who took the lead, however, as Jon Stead curled an effort past Kelvin Davis. They were almost two up just minutes later when Albert Adomah dinked the ball over Davis, but Nathaniel Clyne got back in time to prevent the goal.

The Saints pushed on for the equaliser, and almost got it with just two minutes of normal time left when Guly do Prada's effort was parried away by Gerken.

The leveller eventually came two minutes into injury time when Jose Fonte's long ball was nodded down by Rickie Lambert into the path of Billy Sharp, who put it in at the far post.
