Tenth seed Angelique Kerber safely progressed to the third round of the French Open with a 6-3 6-2 win over Olga Govortsova this afternoon.
The German claimed an early break to take immediate control of the action against an opponent ranked 67 places below her.
Strong displays on her own serve saw Kerber hold out comfortably to take the opening set 6-3.
Two more breaks in the midway stage of the second put Kerber well on her way to victory as she forced Govortsova to serve to stay in the match.
The Belarusian did so successfully but Kerber required just one more game to secure victory and a place in the third round at Roland Garros.
