Leicester City join race for Sporting Lisbon defender Nuno Mendes?

Leicester City are reportedly ready to join the race to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Nuno Mendes during the January transfer window.

Sporting Lisbon defender Nuno Mendes has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Leicester City.

Despite only turning 18 years of age in June, Mendes has already made 16 starts and two substitute appearances in the first team.

Newcastle United are said to be one of a number of Premier League clubs who are monitoring the progression of the teenager.

According to the Daily Mail, Leicester are ready to join the race as they contemplate their options at left-back.

Although Mendes possesses a £40m release clause, the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic could lead to Sporting accepting lower offers.

Sporting are also open to agreeing fresh terms with the prospect, providing that any new deal includes a higher release clause.
