Seventh-seed Tomas Berdych has overcome Nicolas Mahut in straight-sets to progress to the last 32 in the Sony Ericsson Open.

Mahut broke the Czech's serve twice in the opening four games, but failed to consolidate either as Berdych hit back immediately on both occasions.

Both men then held serve until the 11th game, where Berdych claimed his third break of the match before holding to love to seal the opening set 7-5.

The second set was a breeze for Berdych, who had seven break points and took four, as he claimed it 6-1.
