Liverpool's Kolo Toure: 'We must continue to show fighting spirit'

Kolo Toure believes that Liverpool need to carry their spirited performance against Real Madrid into the rest of their games.

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has called on his teammates to "give everything" in the coming games following their spirited display against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Manager Brendan Rodgers was criticised for placing a number of regular first-team stars, including Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling, Mario Balotelli and Jordan Henderson, on the bench at the Bernabeu last night.

However, despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Madrid, Liverpool's much-changed side challenged the reigning champions throughout the 90 minutes.

"People were saying we had no chance against Real Madrid but that gave us motivation," Sky Sports News quotes Toure as saying.

"When you don't play a lot and a manager gives you a chance to show what you can do, you give everything you have got. That is what happened and that's the way we need to play in every game now. We all showed the manager we will fight.

"I know we lost but I am very happy because we played a really good game. At the end of the day, everyone worked hard and showed so much determination."

The Merseyside outfit have won just four out their first 10 Premier League fixtures and face a tough task when they play Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday.
