Sunderland owner Ellis Short is reportedly willing to keep hold of manager Martin O'Neill, despite questions over his future.

Sunderland owner Ellis Short is reportedly willing to keep manager Martin O'Neill at the helm of the Stadium of Light, despite the club's Premier League predicament.

The North-East outfit have slumped to just four points above the relegation zone in the table following a run of four defeats and two draws in their last six fixtures.

Reports emerged yesterday claiming that the Black Cats could approach Everton boss David Moyes if they decide to call time on O'Neill's career at the club.

Despite these rumours, it is believed that Short is determined to look into the outfit's scouting system, but has no intentions of sacking O'Neill, according to the Sunderland Echo.

The Black Cats have eight games remaining in the campaign to ensure league safety.
